What is a DO?

A DO (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) is a fully licensed physician who completes medical school, residency training, and state licensure, just like an MD. DOs also receive training in osteopathic principles and hands-on treatment during medical school. Dr. McDonald went on to complete residency training specifically in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (NMM/OMM), making hands-on diagnosis and treatment the focus of his specialty.

What is OMT?

OMT, or osteopathic manipulative treatment, is hands-on medical treatment used to improve motion, reduce strain, and address musculoskeletal problems that may be contributing to pain or limited function. Dr. McDonald uses a variety of techniques depending on what he finds during the exam and what is appropriate for you. Treatment may involve the muscles, joints, connective tissues, ribs, spine, pelvis, or other areas that are contributing to the problem.

Do you take insurance?

Yes. Dr. McDonald sees both insurance and self-pay patients. He is in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Aetna. Credentialing with Medicare, Medicaid, Priority Health, Cigna, and several other plans is still in progress, so those cannot be billed yet. Coverage for visits and OMT varies by plan, so if you have questions about your specific benefits or expected cost, call the office and you will get help understanding what to expect.

What does a visit cost?

For self-pay patients, a first visit is $300 and lasts about 40 minutes. Follow-up visits are $175 and typically last about 20 minutes. If you are using insurance, your out-of-pocket cost will depend on your individual plan, deductible, copay, and coverage. Self-pay patients can also receive an itemized receipt to submit to their insurance company for possible reimbursement.

Do you see patients of all ages?

Yes. Dr. McDonald sees patients across the lifespan, from infants and children to athletes, adults, and older adults. Treatment is always adjusted to the individual, including age, comfort, and what is appropriate for their condition.

How long is a visit?

Plan on about 40 minutes for your first visit so there is time to talk through what is going on, perform a thorough exam, and usually begin treatment without rushing. Follow-up visits are typically about 20 minutes.

What should I wear?

Wear something comfortable that you can move in. That is really the whole dress code.

Where is the office, and where do I park?

Resilience Osteopathy is located at 120 Marcell Dr NE, Suite C, Rockford, MI 49341. Parking is available in the lot directly in front of the building.

What are the office hours?

Office hours are Tuesday to Thursday from 10 am to 4 pm, and Friday from 10 am to 3 pm. The office is closed the rest of the week.

Are you taking new patients?
